We would like to share with you one of our most delicious recipes, Tlacoyos. A Mexican antojito consisting of a thick oval-shaped corn tortilla, prepared with corn dough. It can be filled with an assortment of ingredients. Learn how to cook this delicious Mexican dish, here’s how.

Thick flat corn patties filled with butter beans

Serves 10 pieces

  • 400 g Corn masa
  • 300 g Dried garbanzo beans, black beans or butter beans
  • 150 g White onion, finely chopped
  • 3pcs Garlic cloves
  • Cooking oil
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Lime juice
  • Salt
  • Crema, sour cream or crème fraiche
  • Crumbly cheese


  • Previously cook garbanzo beans with enough water and some salt, until very soft
  • Strain and blend in blender or food processor until smooth purée. Add water if necessary, but make sure it is not too runny
  • Using a pan, sauté onions with a little cooking oil, and then garlic, until translucent
  • Add garbanzo pure to pan, add lime juice, salt
  • Mix well, take off stove, let cool on the side.
  • By hand, shape masa balls and stuff with garbanzo bean pure into small thick long tlacoyo. About ½ cm thick
  • Cook on griddle on both sides
  • For crispier tlacoyos, add a little lard until golden
  • Serve hot, with a slab of crema and sprinkle crumbly cheese & fresh cilantro on top
